The Opportunity

Azimuth is seeking an Intermediate Environmental Scientist, Hydrogeologist, or Water & Wastewater Servicing Engineer to join our growing consulting team.

This role will primarily focus on private water and wastewater servicing assessments and design supporting land development projects across Ontario. The successful candidate will work on projects involving septic system design, water supply evaluations, and regulatory approvals, while also contributing to hydrogeological investigations and environmental Site assessments, and water resources impact assessments.

This position is ideal for a professional who enjoys technical problem solving, multidisciplinary projects, and working closely with experienced senior staff. The successful candidate will have opportunities to take increasing responsibility for project coordination, technical reporting, and mentorship of junior staff as their career progresses.

Candidates with experience in Water & Wastewater servicing, hydrogeology, or environmental site assessments are encouraged to apply, particularly those interested in expanding their technical skillset across environmental consulting disciplines.

Your Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Water & Wastewater Servicing (Primary Focus)

  • Conduct water supply and wastewater servicing assessments supporting land development projects
  • Design septic and onsite wastewater treatment systems in accordance with the Ontario Building Code and MECP guidelines
  • Prepare Engineer’s Evaluation Reports for drinking water systems
  • Assist with water balance evaluations and groundwater supply assessments
  • Prepare technical reports, calculations, and supporting documentation required for regulatory approvals
  • Coordinate and submit MECP approval applications and supporting documentation
  • Liaise with municipalities, Conservation Authorities, MECP, and other regulatory agencies

Engineering & Technical Support

  • Support senior engineers and project managers in preliminary and detailed design work
  • Prepare technical drawings, calculations, and reports
  • Assist with development of construction cost estimates
  • Coordinate regulatory approvals
  • Participate in planning studies and feasibility assessments
  • Conduct condition assessments of water and wastewater infrastructure

Environmental & Hydrogeological Work (Secondary Focus)

  • Support hydrogeological investigations related to servicing and land development
  • Assist with Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments where required
  • Coordinate field investigations including drilling programs and environmental sampling
  • Prepare technical documentation consistent with CSA and O.Reg. 153/04 requirements

Project Coordination & Professional Development

  • Prepare clear, concise proposals and technical reports
  • Coordinate project tasks and field programs
  • Mentor junior staff and support field training
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary team members

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3–6+ years of relevant experience in water/wastewater servicing, hydrogeology, or environmental consulting
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, hydrogeology, environmental science, or a related discipline
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensed in Ontario or eligibility for licensing is considered an asset
  • Strong technical report writing skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to coordinate projects and field programs
